Stranger

This series, titled Stranger, reflects artist’s lived experience as an immigrant navigating life in a foreign country - a place where she remains perpetually at a distance. The central cube symbolises herself, rigid and defined, yet isolated amidst swirling, shapeless forms that surround it. These fluid and chaotic forms represent the system, culture, and societal norms that she, as a foreigner, can never fully integrate into.

The cube, with its fixed structure, cannot mould itself to fit within these ever-shifting shapes, signifying the constant tension between her identity and the unfamiliar system she resides in. Through this work, she expresses the feeling of being a perpetual outsider - visible, but unable to belong.

This series invites viewers to reflect on themes of identity, belonging, and the invisible barriers that separate individuals from the societies they inhabit. It is a testament to both resilience and estrangement, a portrayal of the immigrant's paradox: present, yet alienated.

Medium: Watercolor pencils, Acrylic & white color marker on 360 gm white paper.
